About Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences

The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences is located in the city of Bangalore in India. The Government of Karnataka set up the University in the year 1996 to promote higher education in Karnataka in the field of health sciences. The University was established under the Rajiv Gandhi Universities of Health Sciences Act of 1994.

At the time of the establishment of the University, more than 276 colleges were brought into the jurisdiction of the University. The RGUHS had all those colleges in the state which had courses for Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Nursing. The main aim behind bringing together all 276 colleges of the state under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences was to ensure uniform standards in both administration and academics were maintained throughout making sure high quality education is provided in the field of health sciences all over the state of Karnataka.

The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences is named after the former Prime Minister of India, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. Initially the University was located in the city of Mysore but the State legislature of the State moved the University to its present location in the year 1998.

Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences is located in Bangalore. The university imparts and promotes higher education in the field of health sciences in the state of Karnataka. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved the though it is not financed by UGC grants. The state University is self contained. RGUHS is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Heath Sciences in India have always been very prominent and the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences was established to have better and more planned health education in the state. RGUHS is the second University for health sciences which was set by the Act of Legislation by the State. There are both undergraduate and postgraduate courses which are operated in the 630 colleges that are affiliated to the University. The courses are in various disciplines like Dentistry, Medicine, Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Nursing, Pharmacy, naturopathy, Physiotherapy, Unani medicine and Yogic Sciences.

There are long distance courses that are also offered by the University. RGUHS helps its students in proving the best education facilities with the best curriculum and also with suitable infrastructure and ambience, to achieve their mission of providing higher education in the field of health and sciences to the students of the University. The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences provides the facility of well equipped laboratories, library, computer labs, to help the students to get the best support and education in the field of health sciences. In addition to this, the university provides facility of on-line results also to the students which make it very convenient for students to check their results.
